Verna Marie Collins Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Verna Marie Collins of Annapolis, MO entered Heaven on Friday, June 17, 2022, at the age of 79 years, 7 months, and 2 days. She was born November 15, 1942, in Ruble, MO to the late Guy and Lela (Beaver) Skiles. On May 26, 1962, Verna was united in marriage to Russell Collins who survives. To this union two children were born, Russell Collins and wife Sheryl of St. Louis, MO, and Kenneth Collins and wife Jill of St. Louis, MO, both of whom survive. Also surviving Verna are four grandchildren, Andrew Collins and fiancée Kristina, Steven Collins and wife Maria, Rachel Collins, Luke Collins; three sisters-in-law, Pat Collins, Sharon Allen and husband Jack, and Joan Chilton, and many more loving nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Verna is preceded in rest by her parents, five brothers, Burnell Skaggs, Cordell Skaggs, Burnice Skaggs, Morgan Skiles, and Guy Wright; and six sisters, Alta-Mae Cunningham, Wanda Lou Kelley, Pansy Moenster, Guylena Hrdlicka, Dorothy Frahm, and Opal Haintl; a brother-in-law Lonnie Collins, and a sister-in-law Ruby Collins. Verna was a graduate of McKinley High School in St. Louis and went on to work in the accounts payable/receivable departments for Ozark Lead and ISP companies to help support her family until she retired 25 years ago. She and Russ were members of the Happy Zion General Baptist Church of Annapolis for many years. Verna was heavily involved with many activities and positions in the church, including being the treasurer for 50 plus years. She was active in the Annapolis community helping with many functions and events and enjoyed supporting the South Iron Panthers. Verna will be missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. A Visitation will be held for Verna on Sunday, June 19, 2022, beginning at 5:00 pm and lasting until 8:00 pm from the Cole Family Funeral Home in Ironton, MO. A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, June 20, 2022, beginning at 11:00 am from the Happy Zion General Baptist Church in Annapolis, MO. Interment will follow the services in the Annapolis Cemetery. Rev. Sam Hamilton and pastor Mark Winn will be officiating the services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Faith Home Children’s Center in Honduras in care of Happy Zion General Baptist Church.
