Jerry Lee Bates Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Jerry Lee Bates of Ironton, MO passed away Nov. 25, 2012 at his residence at the age of 54. He was born Dec. 20, 1957 in St. Louis, MO a son of Ted Bates and Mamie Sohn. He was preceded in death by an infant son Jeremy. On Nov. 27, 1993 he was united in marriage to Sara Jones who survives. Also surviving are four children, Stacy Schmaltz and husband Brian of Bismarck, Jerry Bates II of Minneapolis, MN, Elizabeth Green of Imperial, and Tonya DeClue and husband Lance of St. Louis; six grandchildren, Heather Prunty, Kyle and Austin Schmaltz, Dylan Shanks, and Caleigh and Meadow Green, his former son in law Frank Green who stayed by his side during his illness; One brother Harry, two sisters, Linda Bathe and Margie Bates and many other relatives and friends. Jerry attended Lesterville High School. He was a heavy equipment mechanic and was a member of the American Legion. He served his country in the United states Army and was stationed in Korea, receiving 2 good conduct medals, Army Achievement Medal, Army Service ribbon, overseas service ribbon, Mechanics Badge with bar, drivers badge and sharpshooter with rifle and hand grenade. Funeral services will be held on Wed. Nov. 28 at 1 PM from Cole Family Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Jones officiating. Interment will be in Layne Cemetery with Military Honors.
