Harwell Lambert

Harwell Lambert of Ironton, MO, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 11 at the age of 77 years, 3 months, and 17 days. He was born on April 25, 1940 in Cardwell, MO to the late Dexter "Deck" and Clara Crow Lambert. On August 20, 1960, Harwell was united in marriage to the love of his life, Amy Beth Summitt who survives. To this beautiful union, three even more beautiful children were born; Sue Helen McHaffey of Ironton, MO, Bradley Lambert and wife Amy of Ironton, MO, and Amy Norton and husband David of Chesterfield, MO all who survive. Also surviving Harwell in addition to his wife and children are one sister, Sue Jackson of Memphis; nine grandchildren, Betsy, Clabe, Katee, Thomas, Timmy, David, Christian, Lainee, and Ellie; two great-grandchildren, Karter and Steel; hundreds of students whose live's he touched, and many other loving family members and friends. Harwell earned his Bachelor's Degree in education with a major in biology and a double minor in chemistry and physics from Arkansas State University in Jonesboro, Arkansas in 1962 where he was also a member of the marching band. He then went on to earn his Master's Degree in counseling from Ole Miss in 1967, and then earned his Specialist Degree in administration from Southeast Missouri University 1982. Harwell was an extremely devoted educator for many years; he taught and administered the testing for the State of Missouri Department of Education. From 1962 to 1963 he taught Biology for the Fox C-6 School District in Arnold, Missouri from 1963 to 1967 he taught Biology, Physics, and Chemistry for the Southland School District in Arbyrd, Missouri from 1967 to 1990, he had several positions with the Arcadia Valley School District; first he was the Junior High Principal while teaching Biology and helping with the bus routes, then he became the High School Principal while teaching Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, and then went on to become the Assistant Superintendent and continued to teach Physics. On January 31, 1990, he became the Superintendent for the Caledonia School District and taught Biology, Chemistry, and Physics until he retired in June of 1995. And from 1997 to 1998 he became the Superintendent for the Piggott School District in Piggott, Arkansas where he retired in 1998. He truly was a devoted educator. Harwell was a member of the Arcadia Valley Church of Christ where he lead singing, taught Sunday School classes, and helped preach the Word when needed; all from 1962 to 2014. A Life Celebration will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 1:00 pm at the Cole Family Funeral Home. Visitation for Harwell will be Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Cole Family Funeral Home. A second Life Celebration will be held at the McDaniel Funeral Home in Senath, MO on Saturday, August 19, at 1:00 pm with visitation that morning starting at 11:00 am and interment in the Cardwell Cemetery.
